FORMAT YOUR HEART
Warning: All memories will be deleted.
Format Your Heart is a silent film that depicts a girl who views photos of her and her ex-boyfriend through her camera roll. As she observes the pictures, the memories within take her back to those moments.
The title refers to the “format card” option that comes in digital cameras. By doing so, all the files within the SD card would be permanently deleted, thereby erasing every trace of them.
This was my submission to Chapman University. I had just learned about their film program and was very impressed with it, so I decided to apply as a transfer. The prompt was “make a 2-minute dialogue-free short film about a character that has to make a big decision.” I had about a week to submit, so I gathered two of my close friends at the time (both actors, thankfully) and had them act in this project which took one day to film. We shot the main flashback segment at the Moorpark College library, then included old footage I had of them as the remaining scenes.
