APPARITIONS OF REGRET

A haunting of the past.

Apparitions of Regret is a short film I made for a visual storytelling class during my first semester at Chapman. The short follows a young woman whose grief conjures the ghost of her deceased partner.

Although my first semester was remote, I was fortunate enough to live in campus housing with other film students. Through a string of events that brought conflict to the production, I settled with a skeleton crew, acting as the director/cinematographer/production designer/editor. We filmed the short in my room in just under three hours, only using my DSLR camera, a tripod, and one light source. I chose to color grade it in black-and-white with high contrast primarily to mask the no-budget look with the equipment we had. However, I also found it stylistically better than color.

Out of the four projects from the class, this was my favorite. Ideally, I’d like to revisit this one day,  expanding it with greater context. But for now, I am content with how this turned out; it brings back simpler memories from my time at film school.
